Firstly, before I give my opinion of the dogs that were kindly entered under me, I would like to say that to be asked to judge any show, especially a championship show, is a great honour, therefore you should be honest enough to give an unbiased opinion. I was pleased with my top winners, but movement, loose eyes and harsh expressions are seemingly the norm now. I found mouths, on the whole were good.
Class1. Minor Puppy Dog. 5 entries 1 Abs
1st Henshall’s CALCHAS ACCORD (AI)
Beautiful marked harlequin puppy, who, I understand is his first show. Well grown puppy with substance. Head still developing, would prefer a tighter eye. Good clean chest with width, leading to good length of neck, with depth of brisket. Firm topline, slightly low in croup and tail set. Needs to tighten at the rear, but this did not effect his excellent driving movement from behind, from a well angulated rear. BPD. Well done.
2nd Morgan’s RIMOR BEAUMARIS
Well grown substantial fawn puppy with masculine head and dark eye, and inquisitive expression. Strong lengthy neck into good lay of shoulder. This puppy still needs to tighten up in front as yet, but has good topline and angulation, but did not have the drive, or movement of 1.

Class 2. Puppy Dog. 2 entries 0 Abs
1st Donnelly’s PRIMUS LAW MAN
Fawn puppy with typical head shape, with correct proportions, if a little loose in eye. Excellent width of chest and shoulder placement. Slightly long cast in body, and out of coat today. Well muscled rear with good angulation. Certainly moved with drive and precision.
2nd Price’s DEVORIN WASHINGTON VIA LEAMAP
Black who I have admired from the ringside, going over this puppy, I was slightly disappointed. Head broad in backscull and short in muzzle. Pleased he had dark eyes, which I find blacks and blues mostly lacking, if a little small. Correct shoulder placement, but would like more width of chest. Correct length of topline, which was held on the move, with very well muscled rear, and good angulation. Croup a tad low, but moved well around the ring.
Class 3 Junior Dog. 4 entries 0 Abs
1st Jacques & Kirby’s JACQUKIR NO REGRETS JW
Very impressive, well grown, rich fawn dog, shown in immaculate condition. He is certainly all male. Well worked head, with correct plains, perhaps a softer expression. Strong neck with good length and correct shoulder placement, and width of chest, along with spring of rib. Strong topline kept on the move. Lovely angulation and length of stride, which would have benefited him, with a larger ring. This dog is yet immature, but what a prospect when he reaches maturity. I have no doubt whatsoever, that he is a champion in the making.
2nd Lipman & Booth’s RIMOR AURELIUS
Dark brindle, lovely headed dog with correct plains and dark eye with expression. Not the width of chest as 1, but has spring of rib and firm topline. Well angulated rear with good croup and tail set, with muscle tone. Rear movement was a little erratic, could be more precise.

Another well grown fawn with classic head and dark eye. Ample front with good shoulder placement and length of neck. Straight legs with strong bone and firm topline with correct tail set and croup. Well angulated, but another erratic rear movement.
Class 5 Maiden Dog, 2 entries 0 Abs
1st Kingsley’s DAINOAK EXPECTO PETRONUM
Black baby, pleasant head with dark eye. Front assembly slightly overdone. Short coupled dog, with firm topline, and good angulation behind, but another erratic movement.
2nd Draysey’s JAEMLUK’S REMY OF CLUNTON
Heavy black, overdone in head with broad backscull and loose eye. Wide forechest and could be better in shoulder placement. Topline ok, good angulation.

Mantle puppy with plenty of bone. Heavy head which could benefit with lighter eye. Nice front, but would prefer better shoulder placement. Another with strong topline and good angulation, but again, erratic on the move.

1st Walton’s RAVENDANE BIONIC BERT
Tall blue of good colour. Strong head onto good length of neck. Long straight legs. Well held topline, but low in croup. Moved ok.

Short coupled mantle with good bone. Strong head, but loose in eye. Good length to neck with well formed front and ample width. Firm topline, slightly low in croup but has width. Another who needs to tighten in rear movement.

Fawn with a classic head, not overdone in any way. Dark eye and soft expression. Long length of neck, leading to well set shoulders. Good width to chest with depth. Nice hard topline and well let down hocks. Moved rather loose behind.
2nd Abbott’s NIKAMI LEAP OF ROMANCE
Fawn dog shown in excellent hard condition. Slightly broad in head and light in eye, however this is a nice Great Dane. Not as showy as 1, but overall an honest male. Good shoulder placement, firm topline with hard muscled rear with correct angulation. Moved with drive both coming and going. Was the best mover on the day. Just lost out to 1 on headpiece.

1st Dyson’s CH SAMDICE NOBODY DOES IT BETTA (AI)
This dog surprised me when going over him. Dark brindle of size and substance. Well presented with good condition. Head not overdone in any way. Kind expression with dark eye. Correct head plains, leading to a lovely length of neck. Width to chest, with correct lay of shoulder, and good brisket and loin. Well angulated rear, would like more positive front movement, but I was impressed by this dogs hard condition and classic looks.

An honest dog who has compact body shape and substance. Clean head, if a tad wide in backscull, and light in eye. Not a fault in the standard, but I, personally find that light eyes distract from that kind expression that danes should have. I am now seeing too many light eyes in blues and blacks. Correct shoulders and strength of topline, well held on the move. This dog moved with purpose around the ring, but didn’t have that classic head I was looking for.

1st Simpson’s RENESCENT CAUGHT IN A SPELL (AI)
Have seen this dog from the ringside on many occasions, but I did not expect to find such a nice dog, who is maturing nicely. Shown in gleaming condition, with short tight coat, this dog ,for me, was classy and elegant, but still very much a male. Tall body with classic head, not overdone, with tight dark eye and correct length to muzzle. Ears were a little over large, but could not let that distract me. Nice width and depth of front, long arched neck which flows into correct lay of shoulder and depth of brisket. Firm topline, held on the move, and correct rear angulation. Shown in hard condition. Moved around the ring, but was distracted by owners wife standing by the ringside, which made him veer to the right, but when he settled, he moved positively. It takes the colours to mature later than other Danes, but he is now at the age of nearly three, and is coming into his own. I have never given a black a ticket before, but I hope he goes on to realise his potential. CC and BOB. Well done.

Very well known winner, and I can understand why. Well marked, dark brindle, with super classic head. Dark eye and melting expression. Strong crested neck with good shoulder placement, and straight bone. Not as wide in front as some, which can effect feet placement, but has excellent spring of rib and depth to chest. Correct topline with hard well angulated rear, and good width across croup, which enabled him to travel around the ring with ease, with a lithe springy action with precision. This dog ,when standing, cannot be ignored. His outline, condition, and presentation is second to none. A worthy champion, and happy to give him RCC today. Well done.
