Dog Judge – Mrs H Dyson
I would first like to thank the officers and committee of DOTY for the invitation to judge Males at DOTY 2021, it is and always should be a privilege to judge. I would also like to thank all those who entered.
I have a few concerns regarding front assembly within the males. Initially on movement I noted that planting of the front feet often made the dogs look to have a degree of loose elbows and loose pasterns, however this is most cases was due to the actual foot placement. Breed standard states ‘ Cat-like, turning neither in nor out’. Many I found to have ten to two feet on natural stand, this effects movement a lot. My other concern is handling yes the good old saying is a ‘Good handler can make any dog look good’ however a bad handler can ruin a dog also. I found many dogs being lifted up underneath, not with care and consideration by rubbing inbetween the hind legs but by physical lifting where their spleen/liver and stomach sits, this has to be painful and obviously off putting for the dog to perform. Some dogs failed to perform, but this was the first indoor show so I accepted this to a point.
Class1. Minor Puppy Dog. 2 entries 1 Abs
1st Jacques & Kirby’s JACQUKIR NO REGRETS
8.5mth Fawn, Growing well, nice straight legs, head of good proportions throughout, dark eye of correct shape, long neck, covered body, moved well for age showing potential of reach.
Class 2. Puppy Dog. 3 entries 1 Abs
1st Southgate’s MALBECIO BACK TO BLACK
10mths Black. Has plenty of substance throughout, Head parallel planes with correct amount of foreface, Plenty of chest and well covered springy ribs, well muscled throughout. This dog has lots of good attributes however handler and dog are not in unison, this then makes for visual deficits.
2nd Dring’s KINNEGANS I WALK THE LINE
9mths Fawn. Overall not as big as 1st. Good length to head and dark eye. Moved ok just needs to mature over time.
Class 3 Junior Dog. 3 entries 0 Abs
1st George’s KEIRKANE’S QUEST FOR SUCCESS
Fawn who stands on good feet meaning when on the move had reach and good placement. Head neat with good planes, long neck good front. In the maturing stages, build over loin is muscular and provided good movement.
2nd Wright’s DORNOIR RONAN
Blue. Another that was very unsettled. Head good, crested neck covered body, on the move when settled could see good angulations at the rear.
3rd Strano’s DAINOAK FOXTROT OSCAR BY FONTANAROSSA
Class 4 Yearling Dog, 1 entries 0 Abs
1st Chappell’s Ch SELMALDA JEALOUS GUY
Brindle. His head has parallel planes and length with darkest of eyes, ears sit well and are used to perform great expression. Front not over or underdone with shoulders of good angulations. He has tight feet set on straight legs and flat bone. Rib cage springy and of correct length for body type. Over his rear he has ample muscle. He moves! he performs a laid back action yet with power pushing from his rear and reach, foot placement during movement never off straight coming and going and easy. My Best Dog on the day.
Class 5 Maiden Dog, 0 entries 0 Abs
